Temperatures plunged below freezing in many parts of the UK on Sunday with heavy snow and gale-force winds causing major disruption to travellers. The lowest recorded temperature was almost -5 degree Celsius in Perthshire overnight with “widespread” frost hitting large areas of the UK, the BBC Weather centre said. Widespread icy patches could form on untreated surfaces, especially where snow has fallen. Drivers could face treacherous conditions on icy roads, the Met Office said.
