Making the push for stronger military-to-military ties with India, top US commander Admiral Samuel locklear says that an enhanced relationship would prove to be good for the security of the whole region.
“It’s good for the security of the region; it’s good for our own national interest; it’s good, I think, for Indian national interest,” said locklear, Commander of US Pacific Command, during an interaction with the Washington-based foreign media. “We’re also looking at ways that we can pursue together maybe some joint ventures or joint sharing of the ways we go forward on some of the military equipment that we might build together,” he said.
The US Defence Department gave directions “on how we should start working our plans to develop a longer-term strategic relationship with our Indian partners”, locklear also pointed to the declaration on US-India defence cooperation that was issued after the summit meeting between President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here in September.
