Pak SC disqualifies Sharif as PMl-N chief

In a major blow to Nawaz Sharif’s political career, Pakistan’s Supreme Court on Wednesday disqualified the ousted PM as the chief of his own party and struck down all decisions taken by him as the party head. Sharif was disqualified as the PM in Panama Papers case in July last year under Article 62 for failing to declare a receivable salary as an asset.

Wednesday’s ruling is seen as a major blow to the political career of Sharif, who leads the country’s most powerful political family. A three-judge SC Bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar ruled it is mandatory for party chief to fulfil requirements of Articles 62 and 63 of Constitution as party head is powerful and political parties control the Government.
