MIAMI: One person was killed and two others were seriously injured on Wednesday (November 04) when a helicopter crashed into Biscayne Bay near Miami, officials said.
The helicopter went down shortly before noon near Bill Baggs State Park, off Key Biscayne, the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office said. The US Coast Guard confirmed that one of the three people on board was reported dead, while the other two were taken to a local trauma centre.
Preliminary information indicates the Robinson R44 II helicopter appeared to be on a photography flight, capturing boats on the water, Miami-Dade Sheriff's office said. Coast Guard teams, firefighters from several local agencies and Border Protection responded to the crash.
The sheriff's office marine patrol units said that when they reached the scene, they found good samaritan trying to help a victim. Then the Miami firefighters attempted to save his life, but he didn't survive.
Officials did not immediately identify the occupants. The NTSB is investigating. (With inputs from media reports)
