KATHMANDU: One foreign national was killed and another person injured after two helicopters collided while attempting to land at a snow-covered site in Nepal's Solukhumbu district on Tuesday, police said.
The helicopters crashed into each other as both were approaching the landing site in the Everest region, Nabin Raja Budhathoki, in charge of Solukhumbu District Police, told.
"One foreigner is dead on the spot, and another injured person has been taken to the hospital," Budhathoki said, without providing further details.
Small helicopters are commonly used in Nepal to transport tourists, climbers and supplies, as well as to carry out emergency evacuations.
The Himalayan country's challenging terrain and rapidly changing weather conditions make aviation operations particularly hazardous. (with inputs from media organisations)
