As part of a major reorganisation to combat the mounting threat of economic espionage and theft of corporate secrets, the US Department of Justice has appointed noted Indian-American lawyer Anita M Singh as the Chief of Staff and Counsellor in its National Security Division (NSD).

An alumna of the University of Pennsylvania law School, Singh has served been the acting Chief of Staff at NSD, which she joined in 2011 after a stint at the White House where she served as Director for Intelligence Programmes and Reform. She was on the National Security Council

staff, focusing on cyber-related issues.

As NSD’s Chief of Staff, Singh will focus on strategic management issues, including the design of structural changes to support work in emerging threat areas, said a Justice Department announcement. After graduating with her JD and AM, Singh was a management strategy consultant with the Boston Consulting Group.

Making the announcement, Assistant Attorney General for National Security John P Carlin said the changes are designed to put additional focus on the protection of national assets from the threat of state-sponsored economic espionage and proliferation, including through cyberspace.
