Heavy metal! NASA’s Mars rover Curiosity has discovered its first meteorite on the Red Planet - a huge shiny, lumpy rock made mostly of iron. The rock is an iron meteorite called “lebanon,” similar in shape and lustre to iron meteorites found on Mars. lebanon is about 2 meters wide. Another piece discovered which is smaller in size is called “lebanon B.” The high-resolution circular images were taken by the Remote Micro-Imager (RMI) of Curiosity’s Chemistry and Camera (ChemCam) instrument.
