The bodies of 10 terrorists killed during a fierce gun battle with security forces in Sri Lanka’s Eastern province last week were buried without any religious rites on Thursday afternoon, police said.

However, the bodies of six children killed in the same raid were buried as per the religious rites.

“Ten bodies were buried without conducting any religious activities on a request made by Muslim religious leaders,” police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera said. They were buried following investigations and post-mortem, he said.

All Ceylon Jamiyyathuul Ulama or council of Muslim theologians had demanded “maximum punishment” for the perpetrators of the suicide attacks on churches and luxury hotels in the country that left at least 250 dead.
