A secret performance by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin in a Delhi cafe threw fans into a tizzy. But he’s in town for another day, so get into your paparazzi mode and hit the city roads. Who knows you might get luckyIJ
When tears come streaming down your face, when you lose something you can’t replace… is what most of us were crooning after learning that Coldplay frontman Chris Martin was in town and played an impromptu gig in Hauz Khas Village’s Summer House Café in the wee hours of Thursday.
All the Coldplay fans woke up in complete disbelief and horror after Twitter, Facebook and Instagram were flooded with the selfies of those lucky few with Martin, Indian composer-singer Vishal Dadlani and actress Freida Pinto.A Martini later, Chris took the stage and performed Fix You, Viva la Vida and Paradise.
The immediate question popped was - what was the event, to which Dadlani responded with a tweet saying: It wasn’t an event. We were at a dinner together, and he just went ‘let’s go play somewhere’! And, boom! (sic)The devastated folks took to Twitter to rant about their heartbreak and one of them was actor Ayushmann Khurrana. That very moment when the lucky few, including Raghu Dixit, chanced upon the performance live, Ayushmann tweeted how unfortunate he was to have missed the opportunity.
“F. You man! Whow (sic),” the actor shared this post in a response to Dixit's tweet, where the musician mentioned that Martin played with his guitar.Singer Mika Singh seemed a little concerned and insecure while writing to Dadlani on Twitter: bhai who is heIJIJIJ Is he bigger then me pls let me kno I’m in tension (sic)
Twitter went abuzz with tweets pouring in from Delhi and Mumbai which gave rise to the new hashtag #ChrisMartinInDelhi wherein Delhiites were proud about him performing in Delhi but at the same time upset about how they decided to stay in that night. Some even linked his recent break-up with actress Jennifer lawrence with the gig.“Chris Martin just broke up with Jlaw and then sang at a Bar in Delhi. If this isn't the definition of a mid-life crisis, I don’t know what is (sic),” tweeted Rahul, a Twitter user from Gurgaon.
Members of comedy group All India Bakchod (AIB) were also present and oh-so-lucky Tanmay Bhat got to introduce Chris to the crowd: “Hahaha, just introduced Chris Martin to come do a small set at summerhouse cafe at hauz khas. WhatIJ,” he wrote. We, too, had a hard time believing that it was an unplanned performance but then Summer House Cafe’s co-owner Anchit Kapil laid the rumour to rest. “We had no prior information of his appearance. It was only 15 minutes before he arrived that Vijay Nair from Only Much louder informed us that Chris would be coming. There wasn’t even any visible security and he interacted with just about everyone. Everyone was on the stage and it was completely crazy and fun,” Kapil shared.
The actual reason why Martin and Pinto are here is because they are part of The Global Poverty Project, a global non-profit organisation working to end extreme poverty by 2030. They’ve also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visited Kalyanpuri as part of their field visit.
