Israeli actress and model Gal Gadot feels that her character, Diana Prince, is the glue that holds the league together
The endearing Gal Gadot became a household name with Wonder Woman. She is warm, witty and gracious. The powerhouse actress is back in limelight with Justice league and believes that Diana, her character is the soul of the film.
What was it like reuniting with director Zack Snyder to make Justice league after working with him to bring Wonder Woman to the big screen for the first time in Batman v Superman: Dawn of JusticeIJ
Zack is a dear friend, and I have a lot of love and respect for him. He was the first one to believe in me and gave me this huge opportunity. I had actually been thinking about quitting acting and, at the very last moment, right before I was about to throw in the towel — Zack casted me as Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. And I will never forget it. He’s a fantastic director and I really enjoyed working with him on both the projects.
What are the stakes involved in this filmIJ And what motivates your character Diana Prince to join forces with Batman in assembling the team of SuperheroesIJ
Diana realises that the end of the world is coming and she knows that the only way to protect it, is by doing what was done before when the planet faced this type of threat and that is to fight together as one. She understands that the only way to save the world is by recruiting a team of superheroes and uniting them.
What is the dynamics between Wonder Woman and Batman, now that they’ve fought together in battleIJ
Both of them understand that the stakes are high and they want to save the day. They have certain disagreements along the way. But, eventually, they figure out a way to collaborate and work together in the best possible manner.
The five heroes have epic special abilities, but Wonder Woman stands alone in numerous ways. What do you think she brings to the leagueIJ
I think that she brings the heart. She cares about everyone and definitely cares for each member of the league. In the beginning, she is worried that they’re recruiting people who have no real experience, and asking them to risk their lives in order to save the world — something that’s highly dangerous.
Diana is the glue that holds the league together. She tries to find ways to help each of them, at different times. So, that they feel stronger, more capable, loved, and ultimately believe in themselves.
Can you recall any amusing or memorable moments that occured during the shooting processIJ
I think that the most memorable moment for me was the first time we all stepped onto the set in our costumes. I was laughing all the time because it was just so surreal. We would be shooting some intense scenes and I would get a glimpse of someone in their costume and would just start laughing.
Is it true that you were expecting your second child at some point during the Justice league productionIJ
Yes, I got pregnant while we were shooting Justice league. It’s already intense to shoot such a movie. On top of it, I was experiencing morning sickness and migraines among other things. But, honestly, the whole thing went great.
Did you have any inkling when you were working with director Patty Jenkins on Wonder Woman that it would become a cultural phenomenonIJ
I definitely felt that we were doing something special, and having Patty Jenkins as the captain of the ship made everything more magical. After watching one of the first cuts, I felt proud to be a part of Wonder Woman. The experience was so unique. Everyone was
inclusive, which created a healthy atmosphere at the shoot location because it wasn’t an easy project, physically as well as mentally. We were working six days a week, every week for six months, and it was demanding.
We all were so emotionally invested in making this film the absolute best it could be, and when everyone cares so much about a project and are thoughtful about the characters and the story, it shows on screen. To be honest, I never imagined that this film would be a huge success which it turned out to be.
What kind of reaction are you expecting from the audience when they will see Justice leagueIJ
I just hope that they enjoy the movie, but also that they enjoy the dynamics of the league working together. It’s a wonderful group of actors, and each of them bring a unique set of qualities to their characters. The audience should feel like they’re part of a team and will come along for the ride.
