Why so fake?

New show Fakebook with Kavita Kaushik explores the various ways in which we fake it during situations only to look good for a while. By Shrabasti Mallik

How many times ahs it has it happened that you see an over speeding driver bribe his way out of a ticket and you say to yourself how faulty the system is, only to bribe yourself out for overtaking another car a few minutes (or may be hours or days) laterIJ Well, to be frank, we all are somewhat like that - a little fake on the inside. There are innumerable circumstances and situations in life which requires one to be fake - for good reasons and bad. And this is exactly the sentiment that the show Fakebook with Kavita in BIG Magic aims to portray.

Through several stories in several episodes, television actress Kavita Kaushik will tickle the funny bone while at the same time, exposing the reality of what one can become when they let their guards down. One trailer of the show portrayed beautifully the USP of the show. The AV showed woman, carrying more shopping bags than she could probably carry, is talking to her friend on phone and telling her about the super expensive dresses she bought and how she was going to be the connoisseur of all eyes at some impending party. She hangs up and starts haggling over vegetable prices with a grocer asking him, “Thaali mein sona bhi doge kyaIJ (Will you give gold in the packet of veggies as wellIJ”

The show is a fresh take on the Hypocratic Indian society, focussing on topical issues which is expected to make one sit up, think and introspect, albeit a pinch of humour. "This is the ground reality," said Kaushik, "It is not that we are pin pointing it out to anyone but these are things we normally do without realising how fake it makes us look." The show she said is a family entertainer and draws inspiration from real life people. "You do not have to sit for hours and wreck your brains for content. Just step out on the road and keep your eyes and ears open and you will get instances and ideas immediately," she added.

To bring such sensitive issues to the fore might hit a wrong bump but Kaushik is convinced that the show will do well. "You see, when you say or expose something this embarrassing about anybody, there's bound to be bad words spoken. But the format of the show is different, we wrap it up beautifully in humour, comedy and witty lines so that it does not hit the people straight forward," she explained.

The actress believes that social media is the biggest fake in the world today. "I mean, the friends who really mean that much to you will stay in touch in the real world," the actress said adding an instance. "There is this habit now that even if you are having medicine you post it on social media. But how many of your social media friends actually come and visit you when you are sickIJ It is impossible to be friends with 300 people at the same time because the idea itself is ridiculous. You can be acquaintances at the most," pointed out Kaushik, is seen doing sketches where her character depends on situations.

This satirical comedy is aired as a simulcast on television and radio (92,7 BIG FM), making this the first of its kind show in the history of Indian television.
