What went wrong?

To look glamorous can be a daunting task if you try too hard for it. This was clearly visible at the recent Star Parivaar Awards where the actors seemed decked up for a pompous wedding rather than a prestigious award show. Divya Kaushik reports

Blingy costumes, flashy lights and shenanigans, everything here was overrated and exaggerated. With Star Plus celebrating its 15 years at this year’s Star Parivaar Awards, the celebrations were expected to be grand. And yes they were, but the guests (read actors) collectively decided to follow ‘over the top’ as the theme for the evening.

The result: the evening actually looked like a grandsangeet ceremony rather than a prestigious award show. While the veterans of the Star family — Akshara from Ye Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Gopi from Saathiya and Sandhya from Diya Aur Baati Hum — were the face of celebrations, the new members of the family — Titu and Panchi from Tu Mera Hero and Radhika Mishra from Manmarziyan, participated with full gusto and made most of their first outing. “With almost 12 hours of shoot every day and then rehearsing for Star Parivaar Awards was difficult and tiring but after all that hard work, it feels it was worth it. Any extra preparation with regular work can get taxing, but this is an experience, too,” said Monica Sehgal who plays Radhika in Manmarziyan.

Priyanshu Jora, who plays Titu in Tu Mera Hero, said that preparing for the show was like “preparing for a grand wedding in the family.” It was no doubt that a lot of effort went into making the show “bemisaal” as was the theme this year, but too much drama can be a spoiler at times.

Marvellous set and aerial acts have over the years been the USP of the show. But in the first glance, the stage was a disappointment, until the drama unfolded through 3D images portraying different scenes on stage. Karan Patel aka Raman Bhalla made a flying entry on the stage as the host of the evening. Witty in parts and redundant majorly, he tried to hold the attention of the audience throughout. Apart from the leads of the show, this year other actors, too, stole the limelight with their performances.

Actors from Star’s previous shows like Urvashi Dholakia, Juhi Parmar and Nakuul Mehta also attended the function. The show will be aired on June 14.
