‘I like doing challenging roles’

Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who is set for the release of his forthcoming film Thackeray, says he hates taking up roles which do not challenge him as a performer.

“I love doing challenging roles. With each film, I want to try something new. I hate doing roles in my comfort zone. I want to be a versatile actor. I look up to only new, different and challenging roles for myself,” said Nawazuddin. “There’s only one life, we should keep trying new things. That’s what I want to do,” he added. He talked about his role in the film, “Balasahebji was an iconic figure. I am honoured to be doing a film based on his life. He was a cartoonist, writer and political figure. His journey has inspired me a lot.”

He said that it was a tough role for him because, “he was an iconic figure and while shooting the film on him, the only thing that I kept in my mind was to do justice to the role through my acting. I researched a lot about him, watched a lot of his videos, speeches and Sanjay Raut (writer) helped me in learning more about his life.” The film is slated to release on January 25.

‘Calling out patriarchy at home is very tough. The most difficult thing is to question people around you, especially whom you love the most like your parents, brother and boyfriend. I feel bad for boys sometimes because the problem lies with the parenting method which doesn’t let them equip with strong, opinionated women.’

Hathaway quits drinking

Actress Anne Hathaway said that she has quit drinking for the next 18 years because she does not want to drink around her two-year-old son Jonathan.

During an appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show, Hathaway said: “I quit drinking back in October for 18 years. I’m going to stop drinking while my son is in my house just because I don’t totally love the way I do it and he’s getting to an age where he really needs me all the time in the morning.”

She added, “I did a school run one day where I dropped him off at school, I wasn’t driving, but I was hungover and that was enough for me. I didn’t love that one.” She had earlier said that she feels at “greater peace” now that she’s a mother.
