Singer Sanam Puri spoke to Divya Kaushik about his promo song and video for the forthcoming film The Amazing Spider-Man 2
While Pharrell William’s new track for the forthcoming film The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Here, is already creating a storm online, here is a desi lad who has come up with the promotional song for the movie for the Indian masses. Main Hoon is a rock ballad that talks about the power of youth and resonates everything that the superhero movie is all about. Sanam Puri, who sang Hasee to Phasee’s Ishq Bulaava, was chosen by the Sony Music to sing and shoot the video of the promo song for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. “We got little time to prepare for the song but I was sure about one thing that it has to be an uplifting tune to motivate people. I was told that the song should keep in mind that this is Spider-Man’s biggest fight against all his enemies, so the song should reflect that ultimate moment,” shared Sanam, who has his own band SANAM, which was earlier called SQS. The lyrics of the song have been written by other members of the band.
The song is still awaiting its release on the online platform and Sanam is sure that the way it is shot and composed will definitely win applauds. “Everything from the lyrics to song production, is different. We have tried different kind of vocal arrangement and melody is powerful. I have been a huge Spider-Man fan, so I myself was excited to give my hundred per cent and make something remarkable. It is edgy rock ballad song shot with a lot of blue and red element, since these are the two colours we associate to Spider-Man. The band members appear like a silhouette in a video,” said Sanam.
The singer made his debut in Bollywood playback singing with Dhatt Teri Ki in Gori Tere Pyaar Mein. He doesn’t have a formal training in music but he strictly believes that there is no substitute to hard work and you can only learn with experience. lyrics, he says, make or spoil a song. “I agree that we hear all kind of songs today and some get instantly hit also, but only the song with heart touching lyrics can stay in the memory for long. lyrics form the base of any song and it is not important that to make a song a hit you have to compromise with the language,” he said.
The musician hopes that the Spider-Man song will open more avenues for them in Bollywood as well in the Western world. “If it happens, nothing like it. But even if it doesn’t I am happy doing the work that I have on my plate right now. My aim is to only make good music. I am working on a song with Himesh Reshamiya and then there are other Bollywood projects that I can’t talk about right now,” he said.
Sanam has been getting compliments in the industry for his ‘actor-like’ looks and has even got some acting offers. “But it is too early for that. I am sure that I would act some day but I need to train myself for that. I did work in some TV serials as a child and later concentrated on my music career. Right now my priority is music but I will train myself to act and would definitely be an actor some day,” he ended.
