The Hollywood superstar met Narendra Modi and gifted him flowers and a Tibetan scarf
After Hugh Jackman, it is Richard Gere who met PM Narendra Modi. The renowned Hollywood actor and activist, who started his acting career in the 1970s, has lately become an active supporter of “free Tibet” movement led by the Dalai lama. He has become a practising Tibetan Buddhist and is a persistent advocate for human rights in Tibet.
He is a co-founder of the Tibet House, creator of The Gere Foundation, and Chairman of the Board of Directors for the International Camp. “Mr. Richard Gere met Prime Minister @narendramodi,” read a post from PMO India’s Twitter handle. The American star gifted Modi a bunch of flowers and a Tibetan khata (scarf). The details of their meeting have not been disclosed so far. He will soon arrive at The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel to join actors Dev Patel, Maggie Smith and Judi Dench for the sequel film.
Gere will also star in Franny, a 90-minute drama about an aging addict/philanthropist trying to recreate the life he once had by meddling in the lives of a newly-married couple (Theo James and Dakota Fanning). Franny is written and directed by 30-year-old Andrew Renzi who describes Franny as “part Scent of a Woman, part leaving las Vegas, part Cable Guy.” Renzi won acclaim at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival for his documentary Fishtail about Tylee Aboott, an art dealer in Montana who also raises calves.
