Jared Padalecki has been playing the role of Sam Winchester for almost nine years, in the mystery series Supernatural in CW Network. Excerpts from an interview:
How does it feel shooting for Season 10 of SupernaturalIJ
It feels intense. Sam (my character) has been to hell and back. It’s been an amazing run. We’ve been able to explore different shades of Sam and Supernatural — and we continue to have the fans’ loyalty. The 200th episode is a wonderful opportunity to thank fans, so I’m really looking forward to see that coming to life.
Do you even remember filming the pilot episodeIJ
I do. Back then, I think we knew we were onto something good. I remember Jensen and me saying, “Dude, we might get picked up to do a season. This is good.” And now, here we are. It’s pretty outrageous and humbling. This is an awesome thing to be part of.
Has Supernatural changed your personal views on supernatural activity in real lifeIJ
As I’ve grown older, I’ve become less willing to believe there is something supernatural. I feel that since we’ve done so much, maybe the ghosts have seen our show and chooses to stay away from us. Ever since the show started, I believed, “I’m going to pay attention to see if anything crazy and paranormal happens, so I can tell everybody.” But nothing happened.
Would you agree that more people die on Supernatural than on any other showIJ
Every now and then we have people on the show — who say they’ve been auditioning for seven years and are very excited but then they immediately die. We joke, “That’s good; it means you’re going to come back.” You’re more likely to come back on Supernatural if you die than if you live.
What’s going on in Sam’s life when the audience sees him in Season 10IJ
At the start of Season 10, Sam wants to go and find his brother. Soon enough, he finds out that his brother is a demon — but it doesn’t annoy him. He doesn’t think that Dean did it on purpose. He gets annoyed with Crowley more than Dean. He thinks Crowley had something to do with it.
What are Sam’s priorities in the new SeasonIJ
Sam wants to heal his brother. He has struggled so hard and has through all this trouble to get his brother back, but now he’s frantically thinking, “What am I going to doIJ How am I going to solve thisIJ”
They are both very different characters…
Dean’s a traveller — a wanderer, and the difference between Sam at his core and Dean at his core is what drove Supernatural in the first couple of years. And that still echoes in our current season. That’s one of the reasons Dean has more relationships outside of Sam than Sam does outside of Dean. That’s his nature. That juxtaposition puts us where we are now in the storyline.
