The lead actors of Buddy Project Season II, Bharti Kumar and Fahad Ali, spoke to Prerna Sharma about taking the show from school to college
New episodes of the popular Channel V show, Buddy Project involve more of the craziness, with the setting shifting from the Royal Academy school campus, to the grounds of the Imperial College of Communication. School rivalries have been replaced by college hostility. School crushes to college romance. Class room wars to real world competition.
The leads of the shows, Bharti Kumar and Fahad Ali shared what happens this season.
Bharti had begun her career with Disney Channel’s Ishaan, while Fahad featured on Color’s Bairi Piya, then bagged the role in Buddy Project. Both were interested in acting from childhood.
Bharti, a Delhi girl said, “When I got my first project, I was a kid. Now, I am mature and perform better. I have seen how this industry works and can run in the same league.”
Bharti played a rich girl, Kiyaa, during the first season, who was oppressed by her big sister and starved for affection from her family. “The character will see some changes. Kiyaa has become popular in the college because of her music. She wanted to be a singer, and is now getting chances. She appears happy from outside, but is depressed from within as her old friends are not with her,” explained Kumar, about her character.
The first season ended up with misunderstandings between the eight friends.
A second season will add to the story, with five buddies and four new entries on the show. Two are seniors, two, freshers. “We recently shot a sequence where our teacher, Jaitely, (Manav Gohil), has come to the college, and is trying to clear the misunderstanding between friends,” said Fahad.
His character, KD, will be more aggression this season. “KD belongs to a middle class family, and is focusing on studies and his career. He is soft hearted and straight forward. But, because he has misunderstandings with his friend Ranveer, he feels frustrated and is looking forward to emotional support,” said Fahad, who looks up to Shah Rukh Khan as inspiration. The show has a ‘silent’ episode, with no dialogue. It will play out through songs and a background score.
“This will come at a crucial juncture in the lives of the protagonists, where they are forced to face their anger and hatred towards each other. There is inherent melancholy and hopelessness in the premise that has turned best friends into sworn enemies,” Fahad concluded.
