To mould oneself as per someone else’s style and life is not an easy task. And when that someone happens to be the British princess Diana, the task becomes all the more challenging. Naomi Watts has not only risen to the challenge of playing Princess Diana but prepared herself physically and mentally to be a part of Oliver Hirschbiegel’s biopic. The screenplay of the film is based on Kate Snell’s book Diana: Her last love, and was written by Stephen Jeffreys. The film focusses on the last two years of the princess’ life, after she divorced from Prince Charles. Her relationships with heart surgeon Hasnat Khan and Dodi Fayed are also a part of the film.
The British-Australian actress we know for movies like The Ring, Eastern Promises and The Impossible shares more details on the film.
How difficult was it to play a well-known, real-life characterIJ
It was definitely challenging to play someone who was one of the most famous women of our time and who was an icon to the people. I did try to interpret as much as I could and get everything right.

I was shocked and just couldn’t believe that her life ended in such an unfortunate and tragic way. I never met her in person but I wish I could meet her.
What is your observation of the princessIJ Is there any part of her life that you would relate to or that has influenced youIJ
She was so focussed in whatever she was doing and had a spectacular personality. She was also an amazing human being. The fact that she did so much charity and social work has influenced me even more to help people in need.
