Permanent peace comes when our soul reunites with God. We realise that  our true connection is with Him and that the world is but a passing dream

Where can darshan find moments of peace and solace but in those glances for which he has been searching his entire lifeIJ — Sant Darshan Singh

This verse describes the peace and solace we receive from the glances of God either directly when we attain God-realisation or when we see them reflected through the darshan or glances of a saint or Master. Eyes are the pools through which spiritual radiation flows, giving us peace and tranquility. To soar into regions beyond, we need to be in a state of calm and quiet. Darshan Singh says there is a difference between the temporary peace and solace in this world and the permanent peace and solace from coming in contact with God.

We want peace in our homes, in our community and in the world. If there is no peace, it bothers us and we are in turmoil. We may find moments of worldly peace by sitting in nature or in the quiet of our home amongst family and friends We may find solace in looking at majestic mountains, listening to the waters of a babbling brooks or smelling fragrant flowers in a garden. However, all those moments are transitory because life is a series of interruptions. Whatever moments of peace we enjoy are temporary.

Permanent peace comes when our soul reunites with God. We realise that our true connection is with God and that the world is but a passing dream. When we identify ourselves with this world, we suffer the ups and downs of life. However, when we identity our soul with God and stay consciously connected, we are always in peace. This peace stays with us, even in the midst of trials and tribulations. We are bathed in God’s love at all times. Until then, we are like the man in the story of Footsteps in the Sand. A man noticed that whenever he was connected to God and felt God’s presence, he saw two sets of two set of footprints or four footprints, in the sand. In difficult times, he noticed there were only two set of footprints. The man complained to God as to why He had forsaken him. He revealed to him that the reason there were only two set of footprints was that during those times, he was being carried on God’s own shoulders.

The glances of a master reflecting God’s love give us a boost towards experiencing the eternal peace waiting for us. Those glances come from being in the abode of the beloved. It uplifts our soul and pulls us into the inner realms. Singh praises these glances because they carry with them the spiritual radiation that uplifts our soul back to God.

That glance catapults us in meditation to the still center. Such a divine glance pulls our sensory currents from awareness of the body and concentrates them at the single eye. When fully concentrated, we experience God’s inner light and sound. His glance pulls our soul higher until we cross the astral and causal regions and finally reach God. There, we get His glance in its full glory and merge in to Him. The glances emanating from the Master power help us know ourselves as we truly are, as soul. They uplift us from the physical to the Divine, so our soul can meet, experience and merge with God. Then, the purpose for which we came into this world is fulfilled.

When we attend a spiritual holiday at the abode of the beloved, we have many opportunities to share in experiencing the divine and enter states of tranquility. We have many chances to meditate in the early morning, afternoon and evening and better understand the spiritual path.
