After months of gruelling challenges, Prince Narula has lifted the MTV Roadies X2 trophy. In a chat with Shrabasti Mallik, he shares how he continued to finish the final round even after being electrocuted
He braved the weather of Varanasi, held a firm ground in the rocky terrains of Pokhra and after three months of gruelling challenges and dangerous adventures Prince Narula was crowned with the MTV Roadies X2 title. When the audience was divided between their love for Narula’s chocolate boy looks and the ruggedness of his co-finalist Gurmeet minutes before the winner was announced, Narula confessed that he went completely numb. “I could not feel, see or say anything, the moment was so intense. Those few seconds with Gurmeet on the stage, waiting for the result was the longest few seconds of my life,” Narula said minutes after being declared the winner.
Winning the title was no less than a dream come true for Narula. The starry-eyed-boy shared with us that the little desperate boy in him, who was awed by the show when it first started, is finally at piece. “I was pretty young when Roadies first came on television and I remember being so mesmerised by the things that were going on. There were these super cool, daredevil stunts that were happening, people swearing at each other and giving every task their everything, and I want to be part of all that action,” he recalled. He has been harbouring to participate in the show for quite some time now but never had that irresistible urge to sign up for it before this season. “I don’t know what triggered in me. Maybe I felt prepared or maybe I just realised that there is no perfect time as now,” he shared.
There were many moments during the show when Narula was hurt, bruised and even electrocuted but that did not deter his spirits. There was no question of giving up, he said. “There was this one incident during the finale where there was a stunt with electricity. Both Gurmeet and I were electrocuted and our toe nails split. But neither of us gave up because we knew that we had come a very long to give up at the end,” he added.
Narula belonged to Rannvijay Singh’s team so the win did not come as a big surprise. Known as the ‘original Roadie’ Rannvijay is known to train, help and guide participants throughout the journey. And Narula never missed an opportunity to consult him. “He was a great team leader. There was not a single moment he would miss to help us channelise our strengths in the right direction,” Narula pointed out.
He is riding on the wave of success but he won’t be doing that for long. Narula has already signed up for the season of another reality show Splitsvilla on the same channel. When asked about why he decided to participate in a love-based reality show after an (almost) action show like Roadies, Narula blatantly confessed, “Roadies gave me a platform to show my rough and fearless side and through Splitsvilla I want to show people the other side of me. My audience deserve to know me completely.”
These reality shows are stepping stones for Narula, who wants to become an action hero, “like Akshay Kumar.” He explained, “With television I want to get my audience and then I want to venture into films. There is so much that I have to do and I look forward to working with good directors and production houses.” Although he divulged from naming any particular director that he wanted to work with he did give away that he hopes to work with lost Boy Productions in the future.
