Singer turned composer Clinton Cerejo in his debut project composed 11 songs for the film Jugni. He shares with Arjita Mishra that it was a historic moment for him when Vishal Bharadwaj sang for him
For someone to make a debut with the artistes like Vishal Bhardwaj, Rekha Bhardwaj and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, is a matter of great honour and pride. It is not very often that gets to work with them. But, singer Clinton Cerejo had a brilliant opportunity to make a debut as a music composer for the film Jugni with these veterans.
He shared his experience of working with his role models and said, “Working with such veterans was an amazing experience. I have worked with Vishal ji before in Omkara. I have produced all his music right from Omkara. From that time only, he has given me the freedom in producing music and orchestration. We have a very strong trust between us.”
This is for the first time when Bhardwaj has sung a song which has been composed by someone else. Cerejo, with a smile on his face shared, “For him to come and sing for my project is a great achievement for me.” He further added, “For me this was quite a historic moment as I am the first composer for whom he has sung for.”
For the film Jugni, the singer turned composer has composed 11 songs out of 12 tracks. “It is a very special project and has a special significance to me,” said the artiste. Cerejo had a very clear picture of his work, he exactly knew what he had to do. According to him, “The film is based on musical story therefore, it was easy for me to compose because the brief was very clear and as soon as I started working on the music, it became very self explanatory.”
On asking that in the current days, singers are no longer launching their musical albums but simply lend their voice for Bollywood films, Bianca Gomes, who also sang a song in the film, said, “I think the scene is really changing, a lot of singers and composers, even in Bollywood, are releasing their own music which I think Salim and Sulaiman have also done. It is just that the platform has changed. Earlier, albums were released but now singers launch their songs on the digital platform.”
Gomes is excited to be part of this film as she had the chance to work with the veterans. “I have worked with Vishalji in the past, and it is a great honour to be a part of such an album with which the great names are added,” concluded Gomes.
