Director Neill Blomkamp, who is working on a script for a new ‘alien’ film, says his sequel will ignore the events from the last two movies of the franchise. Ripley’s story will take from where it ended in the James Cameron-directed Aliens and not from the 1992s Alien 3 and 1997s Alien: Resurrection, according to the Hollywood Reporter. “I want this film to feel like it is literally the genetic sibling ofAliens,” Blomkamp said. “So it’s Alien, Aliens and then this movie.” Alien 3 marked the directorial debut of David Fincher while Resurrection was directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet from a script by Joss Whedon.

They are not as well regarded by the audience as the previous two movies. Sigourney Weaver, who is set to reprise her role as Ripley in the film, is confident that Blomkamp is the right man to finish the franchise.

“I would love to take Ripley out of orbiting around in space and give a proper finish to what was such an excellent story,” she said.  Ridley Scott helmed the first film while Cameron directed Aliens. Weaver and Blomkamp are working next in Chappie, which stars Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel and Hugh Jackman.
