Priyanka Joshi tells you about the flavour of a dhaba-style restaurant Garam Dharam inspired by actor Dharmendra
Evergreen filmstar Dharmendra has had a passion for food since long and enjoys sharing a meal with anyone who is as excited about eating as he is. Now you, too, can enjoy the delicacies he savours at Dharam Garam in Connaught Place which has been entirely inspired by the He-man of Bollywood. Who knows you might be seated on a table right next to him when you visit.
The last time we met him at the launch, he shared that one can enjoy the real flavours when he/she would eat using their hands and maybe lick their fingers afterwards for the perfect meal experience. Here, you have the liberty to smach your lips everytime you take a bite.
The place has many quirky points that will make you fall in love with it. At the entrance stands a bioscope with its old filmy charm. The walls are covered with posters of few of Dharmendra’s popular movies and famous dialogues along with his huge graffiti portrait. They also have a typical desi theka for your intoxicating concoctions.
Manager Somen Roy says, “Our place is a contemporary take on a dhaba. Here you can enjoy great food, our menu includes something for each appetite. Also, we are introducing the unique dhaba dabbas that we are sure will be hit among people looking for quick meals. For people running short on time, we will also have take away counters. The place will also offer some interesting mocktails and desi drinking concepts.”
They offer ‘desi’ themed mocktails and cuisines, served in a tall glasses and huge steel plates. Chef Kelash says, “This is my third day and I haven’t gone my home. For me this is a positive sign. People like our food. Everyone has their own taste and choices. We serve all kinds of flavours from dhabas across the country.”
For mains, we had Dharam ji’s Special Anokha Milan Seekh, which was equally juicy and spicy. We gorged on the tender chicken curry, Balti meat and the aromatic dum gosht biryani.” To further relish our taste buds, we opted for the tempting Dharam Veer Kesar Kheer.
The place is suitable for all age groups. It is a warm, cosy and comfortable. The ‘Dhaba Te Theka’ style restaurant is where you can share a bounty of wonderful food with family and friends. Also, while you get your dose of tikkas, kebabs and biryanis, there’s alsochuski laced with rum or vodka and cocktails served in pauwa bottles.
Meal for two would cost around Rs800 to Rs1,000, exclusive of tax.
