After parting ways with Redfoo, Sky Blu of lMFAO now wants to win a Grammy as a solo artiste. He chatted with Iknoor Kaur
We’ve all heard Sky Blu as a part of lMFAO with his paternal uncle, Redfoo. If not in our homes, then in clubs, restaurants or on radio. From smash hits like I’m In Miami B**** to Party Rock Anthem, Sexy And I Know It and Sorry For Party Rocking, he has defined party music across the world. However, one hasn’t heard about the duo for a long time and one question that arises in everyone’s mind is what is the status of the groupIJ “It is still status hiatus. I’m just making new, independent music for now. That doesn’t meant that we are not making new music with lMFAO, it’s just that lMFAO is taking a chill pill for a moment. We’re focussing on our individual projects,” said Blu who will be coming to India this week on his first post-lMFAO tour. Presented by Out Cry Entertainment, he will perform at Pangaea, The Ashok Hotel on March 7.
The EDM artiste feels that Indians have a very good taste in music. They sure know how to party, he said. “India has seen a music boom for a while now and it had been on my mind. Thus, I had to come here and perform,” he added.
Blu will be playing some of his tracks from his new solo project, Party President. He elaborated, “I plan to generate enough electromagnetic connectivity where the whole mass of land rises up and orbits the sun upon its own terms. That is my kind of music.”
Blu has never been to India before but he is a big fan of Indian culture. “From yoga to various other things, I enjoy what India offers. I am a practitioner of meditation and would love to learn more from some masters. I’ve always wanted to visit India and I am excited to go sightseeing around the country,” he shared.
Since people have always associated Blu as a part of lMFAO, he said that his individual music would sound very different. “The music is definitely going to be different. I want to win the Grammys as a solo artiste,” he said.
Go On Girl is the first single from the Party President project. Blu explained, “There are many surprises in store, so people have to stay tuned. I want to get people a good eight-song album that shows the diversity of what I can do. There are a lot of things for people to see with this album that hasn’t come out yet. I have my fun songs that make people laugh and music that’s sometimes edgy. But there are songs like Shine and Imagination on the record that focus on my philosophical side and show my feelings about the world and how I view success. However, not many people have seen that side of me. It felt good to stretch my range of songs.”
Blu, who rose to fame because of his previous numbers, never expected this glory. He said, “We didn’t have a set plan. We just went with the flow and it worked in our favour. About it becoming a worldwide rage, it was unexpected and overwhelming. Especially the Party Rock Anthem, the response we got was crazy. As soon as the song came out, everyone got possessed and all they wanted to do was shuffle.”
Now, Blu just wants to explore new things and create versatile music. “But be assured that the goal doesn’t change — I’m still here to party,” he concluded.
