Rumours of the famous Nanavati case coming to life on screen have been discarded as Neeraj Pandey and Akshay Kumar confirm that though the film takes its inspiration from the case, it is not based on it completely
Akshay Kumar, known for his vivacious charm and calm demeanour, seems to be getting better with age. Having established himself in the action and entertainer genre, the actor is slowly carving his space with his offbeat outings. He seems to be enjoying himself without the pressure of big bucks riding on these projects. On being asked about his character in Rustom, he said, “I have played many characters before but this is a little different. You will see that I am restraining myself and I speak only when required.” Maybe his friendship with director Neeraj Pandey helped matters, but the actor countered this saying, “Yes we are friends, but at the same time we are professionals. I don’t know if he likes me as an actor or not, but yes, it's fun working with him, because it doesn’t seem like work. We come for the shoot, finish things on time and that’s about it.” He is experimenting with different genres. "I am the same as any other normal person, I get bored with doing the same kind of roles over and over again. There is no harm in trying new things and I am looking forward to doing things I have not done before,” he said. Ileana D’Cruz, who is playing her first lead character in Bollywood, looked supremely confident about her work in the film. She said, “I think Vipul has done a fantastic job with the script. When I read it, I knew I had to take this up. I have never done anything of this sort before.” Asked about actors hailing from South Indian film backgrounds finding their apt space in mainstream Hindi films, she said, “I am not of the opinion that any film is small, but yes, when you are working in films, you want to reach out to a larger audience. Also since I am more comfortable talking in English, Hollywood may beIJ” On working with a new director, she said, “I am of the firm belief that the director is the anchor of the ship, experience doesn’t count, and it’s the conviction that is needed."Director turned producer Neeraj Pandey, appeared a little hesitant about sharing what the film was about and summed it up with, “I call it a suspense thriller. If I speak more about it, it will kill the suspense that surrounds the launch.” looking at the way the producer and cast has lauded the script and their characters, one can expect en explosive opening to the film. Rustom releases in theatres on August 12.
