Kalki Koechlin tells K Bhardwaj that she took to Twitter to vent her anger and spread the message that one should not take celebs for a ride

Kalki Koechlin used Twitter to vent out her anger against designer duo Riddhi and Siddhi Mapxencar because she wanted to give out a stern message that celebrities cannot always be “easy targets”. “One should always speak one’s mind. Too often, people say things about celebrities very easily and get away with it because celebs keep quiet. It is important once in a while to speak out our minds and remind people that we are human beings and you cannot just insult us,” said the actress.

Koechlin got upset after she came to know that the designers, for whom she walked the ramp recently in a fashion show, called her “mentally unstable” because she didn’t pose with them on ramp. She posted a series of comments in her defense on Twitter. She remained tight-lipped on the issue since she didn’t “wish to exaggerate it any further. Else, there would have been comments back and forth.”

“I have always been honest on Twitter. So I was posting everything. Mostly, I don’t pay attention to the rumours about me. But certain times, it is important to fight for your right. This was one of those occasions. I don’t want anybody to feel that they are wrongly accused. I just know that nobody came up and apologised to me. On my part, I want to make sure that I come out as a fair person,” she said. Any lessons learnt from the episodeIJ “One should always speak one’s mind,” she said, while she was at the Crocs’ new store at Khan Market.

The 29-year-old also shared with us her obsession with footwear. “I have a serious disease of being fascinated by shoes. I have more pairs of shoes than clothes. People who come to my house always laugh because there is a big wall covered with only shoes. There are at least 50 pairs. I can dress according to my feet. Half of them are Kolhapuris and flip-flops. The other half comprises fashionable high-heels which are meant for special occasions like red carpets. The reason behind this collection is that I live a life where I go from one extreme to the other. If I am doing theatre, I need to be comfortable. If I am going for party or a festival, I would prefer high heels,” she said, adding that she is not a brand-conscious person.

The actor also recalled how she used to travel alone, something which she has stopped completely now. “When I was 18, I travelled whole of India alone. My mother was very angry with me. But I went to Jaipur, Bodh Gaya, Agra and many other places. I think as long as you are sensible and you understand the culture and language, it’s okay to go ahead. We do live, unfortunately, in a world where it is not easy for women to travel alone,” she commented. During her travel, Koechlin too had unpleasant experiences in a busy train, but she always screamed and got support from people around.

Her next will be Margarita With A Straw directed by Shonali Bose and she has recently wrapped up the shoot. “We shot in Delhi and New York. I prepared for six months for this role. It’s a character called laila, who has cerebral palsy. Shonali Bose’s cousin has this disease and to understand the character better, I stayed with her. We went out together on dinners and films and I noticed how people treat somebody with disability. It has been emotionally very taxing but at the same, a huge learning,” she informed.

The actor, wife of filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, also dispelled rumours of her doing Vishwaroopam 2. “I don’t know where all these things are coming from. But I am sad that Kamal Hassan has never called me for any film so far,” she concluded.
