On account of implementation of GST w.e.f. July 1, 2017 there may be instances where the retail sale price of a pre-packaged commodity is required to be changed. In this context, Minister for Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution had allowed the manufacturers or packer or importers of pre-packaged commodities to declare the revised retail sale price in addition to the existing retails sale price, for there months w.e.f. July 1, 2017 to September 30, 2017. Declaration of the changed retail sale price was allowed to be made by way of stamping or putting sticker or online printing.It was also clarified that for reducing the Maximum Retail Price (MRP), a sicker with the revised lower MRP (inclusive of all taxes) may be affixed and the same will not cover the MRP declaration made by the manufacturer or the packer, as the case may be, on the label of the package.
Use of unexhausted packing material/wrapper was also been allowed up to September 30, 2017 after making the necessary corrections.
The Industries further requested to extend the permission for some more time and therefore, considering the request of the Industries the Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has extender the permission to display the revised MRP due to implementation of GST up to December 31, 2017.
