Saintly approach

Tarun Tahiliani’s Kumbh collection won accolades for drapes and embroidered jackets

Tarun Tahiliani’s show was the most-talked-about on the day two of the ongoing fashion week. No, the designer was not getting any stars to walk the ramp but it was the theme of the collection that was out much before the show began and drew crowd.

The designer based his collection on his experiences at the Kumbh Mela. Tarun summed the experience as “divine and blissful.”

The ramp show began with the blacks and well-structured jackets drew the attention. The concept saris, cashmere knit stoles, that can be wrapped around in numerous ways were the other highlights. “This is Indian with a twist. I have given a contemporary take to our traditional cuts. A lot of attention has been paid to the detailing and there are lots of drapes,” shared the designer, who like always got the stage designed in a special way, with the hues of saffron and red and got special musicians for his show. “There’s a lot of room for the impromptu cross-looks and separates that ensure you can try on that black rabadi jacket with the asymmetrical drape skirt, as well as the folded drape skirt. Or you can try out the sheer jackets with the plain top and palazzo pants,” added Tarun.

Trend of the day

black magic

Seems like black is the new colour for Autumn/Winter. After Siddhartha Tytler, it was designer Namrata Joshipura and Tarun Tahiliani who presented more blacks. Using a palette of black and copper as her base, Joshipura began laying down her signature sequin embellishments in grids and rhomboid patterns. There was also a hint of red. “It depicts passion and this is my personal favourite that is why I have also included red in my collection,” shared Joshipura.

About the use of colour black Tarun commented, “Everyone wears black and it is like a safe choice. It is emerging as the colours of all seasons and I have it always in my line.”

New find of the day

leather essentials

High five to designer Samant Chauhan’s leather jackets and highlights that he used in his line. The highly wearable collection had skirts, long dresses, saris with embroidery that looked like jardoziaround the yoke area. The fabrics, muted shades spoke volumes about the designer’s past works and the show left an idea with those who are looking forward to bring some changes in their winter wardrobe. Stuff it up with some leather stuff that can be paired with skirts.

Celeb of the day

A friendly favour

We all must have heard how much Gul Panag works out to maintain her shape. But seems like the actress has been giving her gym sessions a miss these days.

Gul walked the ramp for designer Urvashi Kaur in an asymmetrical dress. “I don’t experiment with my clothes and all the new things that you see me wearing are on the insistence of Urvashi. She made me walk the ramp for her,” said Gul and disclosed that she has completed work on her Punjabi film and has a lot of writing work and travel to do. Tie and dye work and plain cuts marked Urvashi’s line.
