The MSME sector of India has been repeatedly mentioned as the growth engine of the Indian economy, but the depth of its achievements are often not appreciated. The MSME sector contributes around nine per cent of GDP and accounts for around 45 per of the manufacturing output and around 36 per cent of total value of exports. This is a sector of 3.6 crore thriving enterprises employing over eight crore people. The MSMEs, which have been issued Entrepreneurship Memorandum-II, grew at more than 18 per cent last year. The sector has been growing consistently above 10 per cent for the last five years. We can see that compared to the other larger industries, MSMEs have been growing better. Government has been appreciative to the need to support the sector.
