With a challenge to cover 500 kilometers in 24 hours on a cycle, Nitin Yadav, is organising an expedition where he expects 200 participants from India and abroad
How would it feel it of riding a cycle for 24 hours. It sounds crazy but at a same time it is exciting. With this excitement, Nitin Yadav, organised an event, cycle expedition, with a challenge of riding a cycle for 24 hours, continuously. The ride will take place in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Imagine of riding a cycle in Thar dessert for a whole day and night, in compelete silence except from shifting dunes and the pedaling sound of made cyclists. Here are the excerpts from an interview with the organiser:
From where did you get an idea to start such an eventIJ
The idea germinated in the mind of our founder and leader Gagan Khosla when we were discussing the challenges we could attempt in the field of cycling. The question he posed was “Can we do 500 km in 24 hoursIJ!” With this thought, we planned to organise an event with a challenge.
How big and grand this year’s cycle expedition going to beIJ
The cycling event will be grand as it attracts the best cyclists from India and we expect a few international riders too. We see these events in a nascent stage in India and we are helping to build a momentous towards a sporting society. We expect around 200 cyclists from all over the world (mostly from India) to take part in the event in Jodhpur.
How many days it will take to complete and where are the participants going to stay at nightIJ
It will take two days to complete the event. As it is evident from the name, if a participant attempts 500 km in 24 hours he/ she can only expect to sleep for a while — maybe an hour or two. However, we have manned stations en route where the cyclists can get replenishments and have a place to rest.
How many participants are expected at the eventIJ
We expect around 200 cyclists from all over the world. No doubt, most of the Indians will be participating
For how many kilometers, the riders are going to ride the cycleIJ
The longest ride will be 684 km in 28 hours for the RAAM Qualifiers. There are also challenges like 500 km in 24 hours, 250 km in 12 hours, 100 km and 50 km challenges.
Is there any particular criteria on which you have selected the participantsIJ
There is no particular criteria for the selection as the event is open for everyone. As we expect only serious riders to participate and that is the reason we have introduced a fee for entry.
