Imran Khan’s thumkas made the crowd swing at the DlF City Centre Mall in Gurgaon. Iknoor Kaur was a part of the gathering

last time it was for Shah Rukh Khan that fans in over hundreds waited for over three hours. This time the wait extended for more than three hours and it wasn’t even King Khan. But the newer Khan from the industry — Imran Khan. The actor was to visit DlF City Centre Mall in Gurgaon to promote his film Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai Dobara (OUATIMD). The news spread like wild fire and around afternoon the crowd started pouring in. The number increased by every minute but there was no clue of Imran.

Finally he emerged, dressed as a qawwal. He made the crowd swing on the notes of Pyaar Ka Dushman, Hai Hai from OUATIMD. The song is a reinvention of the old number.

After movies like Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, the actor broke his chocolate boy image with Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola and is now all set to play a dark character in this film. OUATIMD is a period gangster drama and also stars Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha. It is a sequel to 2010 hit Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai.

Imran credited director Milan luthria for taking out the best from him. “Milan sir is a close friend of the family and I have known him for years. But when he offered this role to me I was taken aback because I wasn’t sure whether I could pull it off. When I started reading the script, I felt that it was the most entertaining story I had come across in a long time,” he added.

He elaborated on the storyline by saying that he was playing the role of Akshay Kumar’s right hand man and that the entire story is about how there are differences between the two because of a girl.

“The three central characters of the movie — Akshay, Sonakshi and I are all Muslims, so we wanted the release of the song to be at a consequential time. With Ramzan around the corner we felt that it was the perfect time,” he said.

He added that they have taken note that the essence of the song is not lost. “There is a huge responsibility and we have tried to bring out the song in its most authentic manner. The new generation should get reintroduced to the song,” he said.

Imran is skeptical about the response they will get on the film as he believes a sequel leads to higher expectations. “When you make a sequel, expectations are high. We are scared because the audience loved the first movie, we have to live up to the expectations,” he said.
