Pink is the new black

This festive season go back to your feminine shades with a little inspiration from lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013. Baby pinks, fuschia, rose and salmon were few shades that designers like Anushree Reddy and Ritika Mirchandani experimented with. Veteran designers like Anita Dongre, Shravan Kumar, Manish Malhotra and even Rahul Mishra consolidated this by exploring the spectrum of pink in their collections. According to designer Anushree Reddy, “It’s a beautiful colour for every occasion right for a bride or a bridesmaid to a girl who is going out. It represents femininity, and is easily adapted to a woman’s wardrobe of any age group”.

Go traditional

The fashion week saw many designers returning to traditional textiles in their collections. The fourth day was dedicated to Indian textiles and handlooms promoting the rich heritage of our country. Patola and paithani are some of the styles and techniques that were used by designers Gaurang, Vivek Kumar and Rahul Mishra. Designer Shruti Sancheti says, “Fashion designers fuse modern designs with traditional fabrics to create contemporary outfits for today’s youth. This also helps them carry forward the country’s tradition and heritage, omitting the myth that handloom fabrics are boring and old. The ghagra-anarkali and palazzo pants offer comfort as well as opulence. With better thread count the material is sturdy and beautiful too.” Many designers brought their collections to life with colourful and vibrant prints.

Crop tops

Designers Shehla Khan, Harshita Deshpande, Anita Dongre and Poonam-Rohit thought to lay it bare. Tasteful crop tops with intricate designs are an ideal way to flaunt the curves. From Indian wear to western influences, the crop top popped up in a variety of collections. “Crop tops are a revival garment and girls today can definitely carry it with denim jackets or woolen shrugs to give a dignified yet fun look for the winter season,” says designer Rohit Dubey. For the glamorous and daring women out there, the laced, colourful, printed, blocked weaved and tasteful crop tops can be a great element to your outfit this festive season.
