No more winter blues

Winter dressing doesn’t have to be dull, boring and expensive. You can look downright sexy while braving the cold with these affordable garments. By Unnati Joshi

Have you started repeating the same jacket and scarf ensemble alreadyIJ We thought so. Staying warm certainly does not mean you have to refrain from staying chic. And that was the clear message delivered as a result of our style-stalking attempt on the Capital’s streets.

If you are a Delhiite, we are sure you must have visited these markets or atleast must have heard your friends boasting about their cool finds from Sarojini or Janpath at throw away prices. And if you haven’t heard about these markets, you are living under a rock. High-end stores aren’t always the solution as those price tags aren’t always wallet friendly. To overcome your case of fashion brain freeze, take a cue from these choices for combatting the cold weather in style.

TRENDS SPOTTED:

Bomber all the way

Bomber or quilted jackets are the winter staple.  With the ‘not-so-cold but not-so-warm’ weather in Delhi, people like to wear a jacket that is not too heavy and not too light. Add punk to your wardrobe with a jacket with a strong personality, a super stylish piece: the bomber jacket.

Go fur-tastic

To avoid PETA’s ire and still stay warm this winter, go for faux fur. The faux fur jacket is back, and this season, it’s looking cooler than ever.

Snuggle-up

Earmuffs are a must for winter especially if you travel by public transport. Don’t leave your ears out in the cold this winter. These earmuffs are not only completely adorable, but also give you a break from the basic beanie.

Shoe game

Boots are the quintessential winter wear. Add a bit of sexy to every step with a pair of knee-high boots. If you find leather boots too tedious, go for a pair of uggs.

The classics

The outerwear you will want to wear all season long. Go high fashion with a classic trench or a peacoat to fight the chilly wind.

SHOPPING TIPS

  • Bargain, like you do for any local market. Ten to 15 shops sell the exact same thing at different prices, so don’t be scared to walk away from a shop if the price does not fit your budget
  • The vendors give you your purchases in super thin plastic bags which tear within minutes. So carry a backpack or a tote bag or a couple of bags (depending on how much you’re going to shop) to store your purchases in
  • Wear comfortable shoes, as you will be walking quite a lot

 Happy Shopping!
