Monster-struck Bips

Actress fled press meet for no rhyme or reason. Shrabasti Mallik reports

It seems that Bipasha Basu has got so used to all the running in her forthcoming movie that she continued to do so at the launch of her movie Creature 3D. She simply fled the venue despite the presence of director Vikram Bhatt. Unless, she thought media as the tentacle monster, that only retreats at the sight of fire. Of course, she did manage to give a few customary bytes.

As spine-chilling and creepy it may seem on the big screen, the ‘creature’ in the forthcoming 3D movie of the same name is entirely the magic of computer graphics. When asked about her unique love for being associated with movies which deal with supernatural elements, Bipasha mentioned, “A story is a story and entertainment is entertainment. Yes, a few movies that I have done in the past belong to the supernatural and horror genre. The reason behind it is simple. Every actor desires to do good work, something that they feel is interesting. But unfortunately, female actors always take the supportive role and most of the movies are dominated by the male leads. This is one genre where a female lead can take the story forward and has the potential to entertain the audience. It would have been foolish of me to not be a part of this.”

Revealing the metaphor about the creature of the movie, Bhatt said, “We have a folk tale in India in which a person dedicates his life to God or to the Universe. If that person ever commits any wrong then he receives a curse which bars him from gaining entry neither in Hell nor in Heaven. He has to stay in his body till the Universe forgives him and releases him of his bondage. He is called the Bramha-rakshash. This creature has an undying hunger and with every person that it kills and feasts on, his hunger grows.”

Bhatt took credit for creating the first monster based horror movie in India.  Visibly beaming with pride, he said, “In the 100 years that Bollywood has been making movies, I believe this is the first time anyone has ever created or even conceptualised such a villain, which is entirely graphic oriented and runs its presence through the entire length of the film.” He, moreover, believes that it is about time that the notion of the West having the potential, equipment and resources of creating hi-end graphics is broken and home-grown talent is respected for the graphic and production work that went in to make the creature look alive and threatening.

Creature is also Pakistani actor Imran Abbas Naqvi’s ticket to Bollywood as he shares the screen opposite Bipasha. After missing out a few opportunities that came his way earlier, he is on his way to make a place in the hearts of the Indian audience. Although he could not attend the promotional tour of the movie in the country due to Pakistan’s political crisis, he has mentioned to the media that he will be arriving in India in a few days and informed that the movie will release on the same day in Pakistan as in India. Speaking highly of her co-actor in his absence, Bipasha said, “It was an amazing experience working with Imran. He has these intense pair of eyes and during the movie he had supported me a lot. He is a good actor, already successful in Pakistan, and I am sure that he will make his mark in Bollywood.”

Miss Basu taught us what he had forgotten in school — the art of précis-writing.
