Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the 765/400 kV Banaras GIS sub-station of POWERGRID to the nation in a grand function held at Banaras. To meet the growing power demand of Uttar Pradesh in general & Varanasi in particular, a high capacity 765/400kV, 3000 MVA sub-station has been established at Varanasi. 40 per cent less land has been utilised in this state-of-the-art GIS sub-station in comparisons to a conventional one. This sub-station will not only ensure supply of quality power in Banaras but in the whole Poorvanchal.
