With his performance lined up in Gurgaon today, the Grammy-nominated dutch DJ and record producer Tiesto shares with Riya Sharma that the music scene is growing bigger and competitive. He promises to surprise his fans with some of his new tracks at Sunburn
We all know that you have performed in India earlier, so how do you manage to surprise the audience here every timeIJ
Maintaining innovation, reading the crowd and giving it all you’ve got.
What’s new are we going to see this timeIJ
lots of new music, new hits and a fresh, longer set! It’s an iconic venue and I can’t wait. I’ll be playing a lot of my current favourites and of course, some classics. I’ll be dropping some surprises on the way as well.
What is it about India that keeps bringing you back hereIJ
The love for my Indian fans. Folks here have a great understanding of dance music and for every artiste it’s very important that your fanbase is constantly growing. India is a very hospitable country.
How do you manage to keep your tracks fresh all the timeIJ
I always look up to the younger generation. They’re eager to check out new music and have fresh ideas. And, you know, for whatever reason it seems like some older generation artistes can be jaded, or just not as open minded. It’s very satisfying to be there at the start of a young artiste’s career and get to ride together a little bit.
When are you planning to launch your next albumIJ
I’ve got lots of records coming out in 2016. Some that are really underground, some that are a little more crossover (like Red lights) and I can’t wait for my Indian fans to get to hear these new tracks at Sunburn Arena. Make sure you pay attention if you come to one of the shows on this tour! lot’s of exciting things in the pipeline.
What do you think of the current music scenarioIJ
Dance music is growing. It’s not a bubble that’s going to burst. The DJ scene is getting bigger and more competitive. There’s a lot of talent and original DJs out there with lots of originality and creativity. Everyone is EDM. I like that we are all in one genre. You know, before, when there was divisions like house, techno, electro, trance, the main genre always lie in EDM. Music that’s made in a certain way.
Any plans of collaborating with any Indian artistes in the futureIJ
Well to be honest I haven’t had the chance to listen to any Indian producer but I’m open to the idea. Any DJ that makes the crowd happy can DJ with me.
Tiesto will be performing under Sunburn Arena in Bengaluru on December 17 at Bhartiya Centre, Delhi on December 18 at Ambience and Hyderabad on December 19 at Gachibowli Stadium
