Designer Tarun Tahiliani’s 2016 Spring/Summer Collection draws inspiration from the nomadic tribes of the Kutch desert. He tells Riya Sharma and Rupinder Kaur that the line is an extension of ‘Tarun Tahiliani Do It Yourself’
It was like a dream land where you see nothing but illuminated white, and amidst the echoes of a soothing voice and temple bells ringing, glided the elegant star Katrina Kaif in Tarun Tahiliani’s latest Spring/Summer collection.
Draped in a whitedhoti-styled saree, Kaif looked no less than a rustic beauty with a nose ring, tribal bangles and a bohemian hairdo. Aditya Roy Kapur, on the other hand, was seen in a white bandhgala for the ace designer’s collection. “She is hot right now. Katrina is elegant with her charisma and poise. She is in fact at the peak of her career withFitoor,” praised the designer.
Inspired by the nomadic beauty of the Kutch desert tribes, the models sashayed in designs starting with black, ivory and sparking colours like marshmallow pink and sunny yellow. The first section started with black dresses and skirts in chiffon before moving onto ivory long dresses and concluded vibrant hues in the form oflehengas and dhoti-styled draped sarees.
“I love colours and drapes. This is the reason I want people to experiment with contemporary dhoti. I want them to mix and match, as you have seen the way how we have experimented with drapes worn by sadhus,” he said.
The pret collection which represented the summer breeze was an extension of the TT-DIT ( Tarun Tahiliani Do It Yourself) and saw fuss-free designs with inventive embellishments, digital prints and sensual draping. “I have also conceptualised the crinkle fabric which does not crush and people can carry it easily,” he concluded.
