Assam Rifles organised an integration tour for children of North East (Nagaland).

Assam Rifles, the oldest force of the nation has been successfully fighting the insurgents in the North Eastern states since many decades. In addition to providing  safe and peaceful environment, the force is also known for providing succor to the residents of the region by way of numerous civic action programmes.

In pursuance of the same ethos, a ‘National Integration Tour’ comprising two teachers and 20 student was conducted by the Assam Rifles, during which children from Kohima, Nagaland visited Guwahati, Assam and Shillong, Meghalaya from October 10 to 15.

The aim of these tours is to provide an exposure to the children of the rich heritage culture and developments in other states of the North Eastern region and thereby instilling a feeling of national unity and integration amongst the children. During the tour, the children visited Kamkhaya Temple and Air Force station in Guwahati. As part of visit to Shillong, they visited Headquarter Directorate General Assam Rifles at laitkor, 58 Gorkha Training Centre, Assam Regimental Centre, Shillong Peak, Don Bosco Museum, Elephant Falls and other tourist places of the Region. The high point of the tour was interaction of the youth with Major General Pankaj Sachdeva, Additional Director General Assam Rifles. During the interaction the children appeared very enthusiastic and excited about the rich experience acquired during the tour and appreciated the efforts by the Assam Rifles for organising such tours.

It may be pertinent to note that Assam Rifles has been conducting a large number of other civic action projects like free medical camps in remote areas, provisioning of basic amenities like water supply, solar lamps, imparting vocational training for youth, conduct of motivational lectures and a number of other programmes. An official communique for the Assam Rifles mentioned that such projects will go a long way in integrating the youth of the region with the nation.
