Milind Soman and Gul Panag were here to promote the campaign against breast cancer. I Kaur reports
Almost everything at b-bar bore the mark of pink. It was the launch of HCG Pinkathon–Run to lead 2013. Gul Panag and Milind Soman were present to share some fitness tips.
An initiative to spread awareness about breast cancer, Pinkathon is a 10 kilometer women’s run. Making a debut in the capital the run will take place on September 15. Training sessions will be planned for the registered runners before the run. Gul, who is the face of the campaign, feels that in India women need to be more aware about breast cancer and learn ways to prevent it. “With breast cancer, a diagnosis is only possible if there is early detection and anything found early can be treated,” she shared.
She encouraged women to participate in the run and said, “If you walk at the speed of how you normally walk in a mall, you will take about a little more than one and a half hours to complete it. I think all of us have the stamina to walk for an hour and a half.”
She feels that Delhi is not the only city in the country unsafe for women. She shared, “It happens everywhere in India and I think it’s unfair to single out Delhi. I think it is commendable that cases get reported in Delhi. But, just because Delhi has more reported cases doesn’t mean it is more unsafe than other cities in India.”
Milind only focussed on fitness. He said that the run was a way to get women out of their houses. “Be active and eat well and the body will be balanced and the immune system will be strong. I have not fallen sick since forever, because I am always active. Choose the exercise you want. If you live on the 10th floor go up and down the stairs if nothing else. I wish I lived on the tenth floor.” Milind worked quite like a charmer at the event, convincing at least five women on the spot to register for the event.
He said, “I think to stay fit, one should be less used to sitting. The chair is the worst invention of mankind. If you want to sit, do so on the floor. On a chair your internal organs are not exercised and your back is forced to be in an unnatural posture. Girls are always worried about their hair and skin and trying everything possible — just go and run and you will have good hair, skin and health.”
