While some have decided to settle for

lesser-known colleges of Delhi University, others have opted for a change of course. Three such students tell Goter Gangkak that it is disappointing that even after scoring in their 90s, they’ve missed the mark

Passing out from a reputed school like DPS Vasant Kunj and scoring 94.5 in boards was a dream come true. In my head, I was one of the front runners. An admission in B Com(H) Ramjas, was what what I had aimed for. The first cut off didn’t have much of an impact on me because I expected the cut offs to fall sharply in the second list. With one after another cut-off list, my confidence went down. The cut-offs were still high, this clearly tells me that there are much better candidates out there than me. I still haven’t managed to get an admission in any of the North Campus colleges. The disappointment is still sinking. I would prefer to settle for a lesser reputed college rather than changing the course. I have no hopes as most of the colleges have closed admission for B Com (H). I could only manage to make up to college of vocational studies which I am not very happy about.”

“I had scored 90.8 per cent in my boards with PCM in class 12. I had planned either for engineering or Physics(H) from Delhi University. The first cut-off list left me nowhere. The high cut-offs were expected, but was a dampener at the same time. The stubborn cut-offs made life difficult for me and my peers. Getting an admission in DU is getting tougher and tougher. I have lost all hopes with the university, although I managed a seat in a less reputed college. But I am keeping other options open because I am not very happy with the college I got. Right now private colleges seem like a good idea.”

“I was anticipating the first cut off, as 91per cent sounded like a decent score to me. I thought my hard work had paid-off. The first cut-off came as shock to me, as the cut-off percentage was unbeatable. like everyone else, I was hoping the cut offs to fall in the next lists. To my disappointment the cut-offs were quite consistent, and slowly SRCC became a distant dream. I couldn’t manage an admission even in Bhagat Singh College.

The fifth cut off list finally brought back the confidence in me. I was qualified to take an admission in Aatma Ram. Even though it isn’t upto my expectation, it did fill me with little hope that the next cut-off might get me a better bargain. With the sixth cut off, most of the colleges have closed admission for B Com (H).

I was a bright student in my school and I know I have potential. I don’t understand how mere numbers decide who gets to be a part of the elite club.”
