luck is surely shining bright for Amit Sadh as he is all set for four new releases this year. He speaks to Rupinder Kaur about getting into character and his admiration for his co-stars
Ask Amit Sadh about the institution which helped him hone his histrionics and pat comes the reply, “From Tigmanshu Dhulia school of acting.” The 32-year-old TV actor, who took a successful leap into the silver screen with Kai Po Che in 2013, is gearing up for four big releases this year. “It’s raining movies and I’m loving it,” he shares. For director Dhulia’s Yaara, Sadh’s character transitions from a young adult to a 45-year-old. “It was a very difficult and a challenging film, but Tigmanshu made it simple and he has a very different style of making you act. He is my teaching guru or rather Drona and I hope I am his Arjun,” he tells us.
The actor went through physical transformation by putting on 22 kgs for his role in Yaara but had to lose around 30 kgs for a chiselled body within a few months for AR Murugadoss’ action-drama Akira, a remake of Tamil film Mouna Guru. Says the actor, “Shedding extra weight took a toll on me, but you do what you need to do.” Sadh stars opposite to Sonakshi Sinha in the movie and feels that the actress is “very chilled out and hard working.”
He will also be seen in a gangster avatar in Guddu Rangeela, directed by Subhash Kapoor, alongside Arshad Warsi and Ronit Roy. Slated for release on July 3, Sadh shares a bromance with both his co-stars. “Arshad is mind-boggling and an amazing actor. He is a riot. Though he is serious while we are shooting but once we stop rolling, we have a ball,” he explains.
Their bond goes beyond the shared screen space as well. He points out, “We hang out at his place; I told Maria (Warsi’s wife) that I’ve gained two kilos because of all the food gorging.” Warsi and Sadh play brothers trying to make end meet in a crime-infested area. He shares, “Since I wasn’t so well-informed about the issues of this world, Subhash sir held workshops with me and was also my acting coach. I learnt Haryanvi for the role as I didn’t want the character to sound frivolous.”
When we ask him whether his on-screen connect with Warsi will be similar to what the latter shared with Sanjay Dutt in Munnabhai MBBS, he replies, “I don’t think anyone can replicate the bonding they shared. We believe in our film and hope it makes its own identity.” He goes on share how petrified he was of actor Ronit Roy. “Ronit is a great actor and has done a fantastic job. During the shoot, I would be a little frightened because he played the perfect villain but once the scene would be over, he would be very easy-going and has a fondness for me,” he says.
Runningshaadi.com is another one in Sadh’s kitty by director Amit Roy. The romantic-comedy is about a web portal being run by a duo to help couples elope and get married. “It is a cute film where I got to work with my darling Taapsee Pannu,” he shares. He maintains that he brings about some quirkiness in his roles. “There is something or the other that makes one unique. I don’t believe in hiding that trait. I would sit and discuss it with my director and see how I can bring about an element of fun in the characters I play,” he signs-off.
