The concluding day of l’HOMME, the luxury celebration exclusively for men curated by entrepreneur Shalini Arora Kocchar, saw CEOs walking down the ramp looking dapper in designer outfits. By R Sharma
Draped tunics replacing the classic men’s shirts and bringing back the essence of the Nehruvian era through cutting edge silhouettes, men at this fashion show looked dapper while they walked the ramp on the concluding day of the four day men’s luxurious weekend, l’HOMME. To add more oomph factor to the event was the last section of the show which had CEOs walking down the ramp at the Pavilion, DlF Emporio.
“It was a tough show as there were 11 Indian brands, and five international brands. I had to keep everyone’s personalities in mind, and put that in a show. But, we came through,” shared Aki Narula who curated the look.
The collection of Rajesh Pratap Singh gave a contemporary direction to the classic men’s silhouettes. The structure of the collection was built with fabrics woven on vintage hand looms. Models sashayed asymmetric checks and stripes in natural indigo dyed gingham and window pane checks in wool ikats gave a contemporary look to the design.
“We have focussed on the new relaxed proportions for the modern Indian man,” shared Pratap.
On the other hand, the collection of Shantanu & Nikhil was a subtle portrayal of minimalism through woolen fabrics, drapes and sharp silhouettes. A color palette that revolved around navy, greys, chocolate browns, and olives was presented through unique detailing. The collection evolved references from the pre-independence era through setting a tone for patriotism mixed with contemporary styling and razor sharp silhouettes complemented impressions that seemed sophisticated yet bold.
Ashish N Soni in his collection used fabrics which were all high end luxury suiting’s, starting with super 150s counts up to more than super 200s counts. There were blends of luxury cashmere, wools, silks, mohair et al. He had also installed his stylish lab at the DlF Emporio during the four day event that showcased the creation of a bespoke suit and the services used at his artisanal studio.
The collection focussed on bespoke services that set it apart from other made to measure design teams. “Each garment reflects the artisanal care and attention of times past combined with the efficiency and speed of modern garment manufacturing. Each and every tiny detail can be customised to craft a suit that matches ones personality, with every fine detail of the wearers tastes,” shared Soni.
We saw a glimpse of the aristocracy and heritage elegance lost in the chaos of a disputed land in Shantanu & Nikhil’s collection. They pointed out, “We are bringing back the essence of the Nehruvian era through cutting edge silhouettes, keeping in accord with the contemporary styling of the modern day man paired with a blend of British India.”
As part of the luxurious event exclusively for men, Anita Dongre oragnaised styling sessions for men showcasing her collection, Neo Maharana. She recreated the royalty of the bygone era with an abstract twist while brands like Corneliani showcased their Cashmere collection with some special offers exclusively for l’HOMME.
