Belgium DJ and Tomorrowland resident Yves V was in India again for his four-city tour. He told I Kaur that the EDM scene in India is growing but at a snail’s pace
Music is not the only thing that brings Tommorowland resident DJ Yves V to India at such short intervals. After his recent stint in June this year, he was here again doing what he is best at — getting the crowd high on music.
He was recently at Shiro where he played most of his new tracks that he is officially set to release today.
“It is so good to be back,” he exclaimed as he took a moment to digest the air. “I love this country. I am always happy to come back. The crowd here is so warm and welcoming. Every time I am here I feel like I had never left,” added the Belgium DJ who in the past three years has only seen the nightlife of India.
“I have been to a few cities here and one thing is common in all the places — they all have an amazing nightlife. The crowd is ecstatic and the party scene is so fresh,” he shared.
Apart from the nightlife, Yves is a fan of Indian food and quenches. “Indian food is so colourful. The breads and curries are amazing. But the only thing is that it is too spicy for me. So every time I am here I pounce at the first opportunity I get to eat Indian food and then realise, ‘I think this is too spicy.’” (laughs).
Yves’ tour this time took him to Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi and Goa. However, the DJ liked the venue at Goa the most because of the space.“Of course it is a different atmosphere when you’re at the beach. The clubs that I usually play in are a small space and there are too many people,” he said.
He feels that the EDM scene in India is progressing at a very slow pace. “I think two years ago there weren’t many clubs in Delhi, but now there are a lot of them. However, the crowd is the same. It hasn’t changed at all. Even the size of the venues hasn’t changed. So, I don’t know whether this is good for the EDM scene in the long run. We need large venues for people to dance their hearts out,” he explained.
Yves feels that for electronic dance music to become big in India, the local talent needs to be promoted.“If the Indian talent starts doing a good job and makes a name overseas, then artists like us will want to collaborate with them. That is how India will make a name in this genre internationally,” he added.
Yves revealed that his favourite music is by the rock band, Green Day. “I think one should listen to all kinds of music. I love Green Day as their music just makes me feel elated,” he said.Post his new release today, Yves is headed to Belgium, Turkey, Italy and Brazil following the same tour.
