Gallant medal winner injured

Pioneer

In a major successful operation, security forces, including the CRPF, neutralised at least three terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. One AK-47 rifle and two pistols were also recovered from the spot. However the joint CASO, which was launched to nab the militants in Hayan area of Tral under Pulwama district, also resulted in five security personnel getting injured. While four of the injured personnel were from the Rashtriya Rifle, the second-in-command officer, Sanjay Kumar, sustained a bullet injury on his right shoulder. All the injured personnel were subsequently admitted in to the hospital.

Sanjay Kumar of CRPF is a valiant officer, who has had many close brushes with militants in the past as well.

He has got three prestigious police medals for gallantry, which were awarded by the Government of India for his courage, brilliant professionalism and devotion to duty in separate incidents  in the past. It may be recalled that the brave officer was instrumental in gunning down a dreaded militant in south Tripura in 2003, one militant in Pampore area of Jammu and Kashmir in 2008 and two terrorists in the Hafu area of Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir in March last year — all against great odds.

He is now posted in the 180 Battalion of CRPF in Jammu and Kashmir.
