VK Gupta, general manager, Northern Railway inaugurated a solar power plant, the first-of-its-kind at Gurgaon railway station at a simple ceremony. Rajeev Mehrotra, CMD, RITES and senior officials of Northern Railway and RITES were present on the occasion.

This solar power plant project is funded and installed by RITES, a govt of India PSU as a CSR & environment sustainability Project.

The 25 kw power solar plant has been installed with the assistance of BHEl Electronics Division, Bengaluru. Factors such as land availability have contributed to the success in implementation of this project, thereby enabling opening up of new avenues for the Railway to utilise alternate energy resources.

Appreciating the efforts of RITES in the development of this project, Gupta expressed his belief that such projects could help tap the vast resources of renewable energy while affording better ambience and aesthetics to the station premises. Gupta also reiterated the Railway’s commitment towards upgradation of the railway infrastructure at Gurgaon, a key industrial town of NCR.
