Star breaks image with Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster 3, says Team Viva
Expectations come as mandatory demons from big names in Bollywood like Rahul Mitra and Tigmanshu Dhulia. Following the success of the Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster franchise, there is a certain curiosity level that the director caters to by ensuring his anti-hero stands tall. So if it was Randeep Hooda playing the gangster in the first, it was Irrfan Khan in the second and now there is Sanjay Dutt.
Addressing newsmen at the DlF Mall of India, Noida, Dhulia said, “Everybody is the same. Except the gangster who has evolved with the changing context of each edition.”
Dutt, who has been used to gangster roles in succession, however, said he did not fall back on known templates or did anything that would bolster his “goon rowdy” image. “Whatever Tigmanshu used to say, I had to follow it. And talking about my image, I am not like that in real life, I am a different person,” he told us. Be it Vaastav, Kaante or Agneepath, the 58-year-old actor shared some details of his character. “I have never played anything like this before. This character is different from Vaastav or Kaante. He is an educated person who lives far away from his family and wants love in his life,” said Dutt, who is basking in the glory of his biopic.
While there were conversations about how Chitrangda Singh, who is new to the franchise, had to play and manage to fit in the role, there were certainly brow-raising questions about how it went while she was romancing the star Dutt.
She said, “Initially, I was hesitant. I was nervous to romance the original rock star. But when we reached the sets and began shooting the scenes, he got really shy. He never looked at me (laughs).”
However, Dutt was all praise for the actress. He said, “No, I am not at all shy. In fact, I loved working with Chitrangda. She is a great actress who adds so much more to the character.”
Asked about his favourite character in the franchise, Dhulia said, “Mahie Gill, the Biwi, has been the best and most evolved character in the series. In the first part, she is a victim of her husband’s actions, in the second she thinks of moving ahead and then finally there is betrayal and self-decisiveness as she seeks her way.” He promises that the characters are well-rounded this time. The film hits the the big screen on Friday.
