Art Junction celebrates lord Ganesha's life on canvas. Iknoor Kaur checks out
It couldn’t have been the better timing for this exhibition at the Art Junction of The lalit hotel which captures lord Ganesha in various forms. Curated by Arshi Ahmed, the exhibition is also an attempt to honour the devotion of lalit Suri, owner of The lalit, who was a big follower of Ganesha.
The exhibition showcases a total of 68 paintings by 47 artists from all over the country. Arshi Ahmed said, “Our idea is to bring works of artists from different parts of the country under one roof. I wondered why we only think of Delhi artists to showcase in the National Capital. Why cannot we merge artists with varied backgrounds and get a varietyIJ I travel a lot outside India and see interesting diversity in our country.” She added, “I called artists I had met at various occasions and they were very excited. Some are from Amritsar and Kolkata, while others are from Hyderabad, Odisha, lucknow and Delhi.”
The art was a mix of various media including pen and ink, oil painting, water colours, photo-painting, glass painting, thermocol art and sculptures.
Ahmed’s paintings too were a part of the exhibition. Some of the other artists were Ayaan Ali Khan, Bijender, Bhupinder S Nanda, Dharmendra Sharma, Madhu Singh, Rashmi Saxena and Harish Kumar.
The paintings at large were interpretations of Ganesha. There were paintings which showed Ganesha in his true form surrounded by modaks and one rat, while some showed him in a symbolic manner with loud brush strokes or geometric shapes.
An interesting painting was by Nishi Sharma who gave Ganesha the artistic touch.
The artworks were priced between `10,000-`1,00,000. Art Junction of The lalit is known to have provided a platform to over 7,000 unknown artists from across the country. The exhibition will be on display till September 24.
