Vietnamese paintings and films were showcased to honour the country’s long-term relationship with India

India-Vietnam relations have been exceptionally friendly and cordial since their foundations were laid. The countries are pushing to broadbase their relations to encompass all possible areas of cooperation and deepen their strategic partnership building on exceptionally close ties.

It’s a milestone year in India-Vietnam relations as the two strategic partners celebrated the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

The traditionally close and cordial relations have their historical roots in the common struggle for liberation from foreign rule and the national struggle for independence.

The week long exhibition of  art works was put up at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts from January  5 to 10. It was inaugurated by Chairman of ICCR, and renowned scholar Prof. lokesh Chandra. The paintings and art works portraying the tapestry of Vietnamese societal and cultural life were a connoisseurs delight. Twenty renowned artists from different cities of Vietnam displayed their  paintings and sculptures. The five day film show from 5th to 10th of January screened some of the finest films of Vietnam showcasing the contemporary life of Vietnam, which is not very different from any Asian country including India. An Indian audience could instantly relate to the poignancy of the films replete with emotion, pathos and jubilation. Although English subtitles were there,  the naive Vietnamese language was no hindrance to have a feel of the agony and ecstasy to the life of Vietnamese people.

The ICCR also hosted a scintillating programme of Vietnemse dance and music on January 13 at the Kamani auditorium. The Vietnamese embassy in India on January 18 also feted the enthusiastic fans of India-Vietnam friendship to cultural extravaganza and delicious Vietnamese cuisines.

The good news is that a direct flight between Hanoi and New Delhi is going to start very soon to bridge the hiatus between the two countries and their people.
