Young models talk about the change in trend from size zero to hour glass figures in the Indian fashion industry. By Ankita Jain
Is it the return of the curvesIJ Well, high-cheekboned, slim-waisted, young, waif-like models might have ruled the ramp. But gradually, this obsession is fading. A voluptuous model is the new trendsetter, a body type which is timeless and at the same time fit.
This was evident in the 'getnoticed' female and male model auditions for FDCI's Amazon India Fashion Week where more than the zero size figure and height, confidence and a well fit body were observed as a win-win criteria for the jury of judges which involved prominent faces from the fashion industry like Hemant J Khendilwal, Asha Kochhar, Ashish Soni, JJ Valaya, Vidyun Singh, Rohit Gandhi and Ritu Dhaka.
"Walk and confidence in the eyes are the two crucial elements I am focusing at", said Antonia Juric, an NRI model. She further added, "One can see a variety of models in different sizes here and the best part is they know how to carry it."
Indian woman is known for her curviness and nowadays, Indian designers are looking for models who look realistic and could be connected than merely being hangers. "Dark skinned or fair skinned is not a concern when you are happy within yourself and moreover physically and mentally healthy. What concerns us is not the size but the beauty inside. Every woman is beautiful in her own self. The only problem in India is, we under estimate ourselves and try to fit in someone else's shoes", told Radhika Bopaiah, an aspiring model, when asked about the actual size a model should be in.
last year France banned skinny models and this led to the path for curvaceous body. "A perfect waist is considered the most attractive feature among the female models, a body in which almost every garment fits in. And this is well carried by Indian models. As a man, I'd rather go for a fuller body", said a male model participant in the audition.
Around hundred of female models participated in the audition, which was a nation-wide hunt for the 28th edition of the event which will be held in the month of October.
