'Clean Ganga' gets a boost

PNS

The past three months have been the Golden Period for the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG). In this period, a number of initiatives have been taken and schemes energised.

There has been an immense amount of satisfaction among the officials and staff of the NamamiGange programmes, which have been in conformity not only with the plans and priorities of the Government, but also in consonance with the national objectives.

A better environment was created, sustainable development procedures like large schemes for conservation, biodiversity, pollution abatement issues, which, hitherto, were lying unattended for the last couple of years, were also initiated in the last three months. Here are the highlights:

From the time the National Mission for Clean Ganga was created with the Ministry of Environment and Forests, for a couple of years there were just a few initiatives which were taken up and even those were not completed.  Governance issues and accountability issues were never attended in NMCG for a long period of time, till May, 2016.

National Mission for Clean Ganga has, finally, taken off and made its task visible from May, 2016.
